CURSE OF THE SWORDSMITH – KITETSU, DURANDAL, KIKOKU

This theory is based on cursed swords and their origins

Kitetsu

Kitetsu is a swordsmith who crafted the Kitetsu sword series

Kitestsu was inspired by Muramasa Sengo a famous swordsmith who founded the Muramasa school and lived during the Muromachi period (14th to 16th centuries) in Japan.

The “Muramasa” is very notorious as cursed swords.
According to legend, prayed that his swords would be “great destroyers.” Because of the exceptional quality of his blades, the gods granted his request and imbued them with a bloodthirsty spirit that—if not sated with battle—would drive the wielder to murder or suicide.

  • The “Muramasa” sword always has a thirst for blood.
  • When somebody holds the hilt of the drawn-out blade of “Muramasa”, it takes over the person’s mind.
Then, the person starts to kill other people with “Muramasa”.
The only way to stop the person is to kill him / her.
  • Anybody can become the “host” of the sword unintentionally like picking up the sword from the ground just after the previous host was killed, or unconsciously by being mesmerised by the sword to hold it.

When Zoro picked up Sandai Kitetsu he could instantly feel that its cursed

Almost everybody who used kitetsu series of swords has died due to its curse

Durandal

Durandal is one of the Meito. It is currently owned by Cavendish.

its direct inspiration from French sword Durandal, sword of the paladin Roland

Although little is known about the historical Roland, he is a prominent figure in medieval European tales. In a number of legends, Roland is said to be the nephew of the famous Holy Roman Emperor, Charlemagne. Roland is also considered to be the greatest of the Twelve Peers, the best warriors of the emperor’s court. The best-known legend regarding Roland is probably that of his last stand at the Battle of Roncevaux, an actual historical battle that was later romanticised into a major battle between Christians and Muslims.
The story of Roland’s last stand at the Battle of Roncevaux is most notably recounted in the epic poem La Chanson de Roland (‘The Song of Roland’). In the epic, Durandal was said to have been given to Charlemagne by an angel of God, who instructed the emperor to give the sword to one of his counts. In contrast, the Italian epic Orlando Furioso (‘Orlando Enraged’) by Lodovico Ariosto, notes instead that Durandal was once the sword of the Trojan hero Hector, and was given to Roland by the enchanter Malagigi. Regardless of its origins, Durandal was a valuable and powerful sword. In fact, in Orlando Furioso , the primary objective of invasion of France by Gradasso, the heathen king of Sericena, is said to be the retrieval of Durandal from Roland.

  • Durandal was once the sword of the Trojan hero Hector, and was given to Roland by the enchanter Malagigi.
  • Regardless of its origins, Durandal was a valuable and powerful sword.
  • Durandal is also depicted as an indestructible weapon.
  • When all was lost, Roland attempted to destroy Durandal in order to prevent it from falling into the hands of the enemy ,
  • As Roland failed to destroy Durandal, he decided to hide it beneath his body before he died.

Cavendish’s Duranal also seems to have same properties as it is considered as a meito, and the sword was strong enough to hold back Chinjao’s headbutt attack (although it did slightly bend)

Kikoku

Kikoku is the name of Trafalgar Law’s sword. It is a cursed sword, and it is not a ranked blade.

Now this is reference from Norse mythology,

Tyrfing was a magic sword in Norse mythology,

Svafrlami was the king of Gardariki, and Odin‘s grandson. He managed to trap the dwarves Dvalinn and Durin when they had left the rock where they dwelt. Then he forced them to forge a sword with a golden hilt that would never miss a stroke, would never rust and would cut through stone and iron as easily as through clothes.

The dwarves made the sword, and it shone and gleamed like fire. However, in revenge they cursed it so that it would kill a man every time it was drawn and that it would be the cause of three great evils. They finally cursed it so that it would also kill Svafrlami himself.

Although its a cursed sword Law’s Kikoku as yet to manifest itself in anyway

Theory

Now all this swords were cursed by there original masters or creators

If you remember Shichiseiken from One Piece movie The Cursed Holy Sword

The Shichiseiken was a sword created from the bloodshed of three warring princes who tried to win the heart of a maiden, thus absorbing all the negative energy around it. The maiden sacrificed her life to stop the warring kingdom and, in their sorrow, the princes sealed the sword away.

Although not part of main story line its concept is very similar to cursed swords of One Piece

Now we have seen such kind intersection previously as Ryuma from monsters returned in Thriller Bark

I believe Kitetsu series of sword was created same in fashion as in legend of Muramasa imbued with negative energy hence they are so bloodthirsty
and no one can control them

If u have read monsters u might know the concept of warrior soul which Ryuma carried and Zoro has it too
as there lot of parallelism between Ryuma and Zoro

Thats the reason Zoro doesn’t become like Cavendish who is unable to control Hakuba the spirit of Durandal
its also one of the reason why Sandai Kitetsu chose Zoro

As it says the sword choose its owner, hence Zoro doesn’t go on a rampage spree like Hakuba

now Cavendish condition is very similar saga from movie cursed holy sword, Hakuba awakens when Cavendish falls asleep and grants him incredible speed, to the point that he moves too fast for the eyes to track; even with Haki he can barely be seen. Due to this, back in the Rommel Kingdom, everyone believed it was the wind that was slashing people. As such, the phenomenon became known as the “Kamaitachi of Rommel” ( “Sickle Weasel of Rommel”)

now Hakuba is very good example as described in legends of Muramasa that spirit takes over the body
and is described as blood thirsty
Cavendish slashed 20 people in Colosseum as soon as Hakuba awakened, similarly he tried to Barto and Robin in Dressrosa which later hardly suppressed by Cavendish

Conclusion: cursed swords carry negative energy or spirit left there by the swordsmith or the original wielder of swords

    The Wano Country

The Wano Country is a nation in the New World. It is a country not affiliated with the World Government.

    Wano_Country_Infobox

Wano Country has its own warriors, the samurai, who are swordsmen so strong that not even theMarines go near them. It was first mentioned by Hogback, as Ryuma was from there. In the Wano Country, women are expected to be modest and speak gracefully and quietly. In addition, the chonmage is a common hairstyle. Aside from Ryuma, the only other known residents areKin’emon, his son Momonosuke, Kanjuro, and a ninja named Raizo.

    • The name is a pun, as “Wa no Kuni literally meaning “Country of Harmony”)” is used as a name for Japan.
    • The fact that the swordsmen in this country are called “samurai” and its closed-door policy are also a reference to Japan in their Feudal era.
    • The location Kuri means “Nine Li”, Li being a unit of measurement originating from China, but adopted in Korea and Japan, roughly being 500, 393, and 3927 meters, respectively. Since Wano Country is based on Japan, Kuri may be translated as “35,345 meters” or “21.96 miles”.

ZORO’S CURSE AND DAMNATION: WADO ICHIMONJI’S BLESSING

Hello again everyone and welcome to another theory about Zoro and this one I find quite interesting.

If you’ve been reading my other theories about Zoro, you’d know that I said Zoro would gain a fire sword and will lose control of his inner demons in Wano and will “die.” He’ll become a bloodthirsty rampaging demon but he will have assistance in regaining control.

Lets get to Zoro’s fire sword first. Its common knowledge by now that Zoro wants a fire sword and is interested in Wano’s fire cutting technique. However, Zoro already has a fire sword.

And what sword did Zoro use to cut Ryuma down? The Wado Ichimonji

In Zoro’s fight with Ryuma, it was the first time we’ve seen him struggle so badly against a REAL swordsman. It was also in this fight that Zoro’s swords were close to breaking.

Its no coincidence that Zoro just so happened to use a fire attack in that moment. Ryuma was a zombie who couldn’t feel pain. The initial cut would’ve done nothing and the fight would’ve continued, resulting in Zoro’s Wado Ichimonji and Sandai Kitetsu breaking. Zoro was assisted.

Something similar happened way back in Alabasta.

Zoro was no match for Daz Bones and was on the verge on death. Coincidently though, Zoro conveniently learned the hear the breath of all things which was exactly what he needed to beat Bones. Beforehand, Zoro couldn’t understand Koshiro’s teachings.

What bugged me about this scene was that the sword he heard the breathing of in the panel was the Wado Ichimonji and….

He defeated Daz Bones with the Wado Ichimonji.

Where am I going with this? Keep reading if you want to find out.
      ****************************************

I believe that all cursed words are possessed by a soul/spirit. Souls can be contained inside fruits so why not objects? We’ve even a sword with a DF ability(Spandam).

Swords possessed by bad/evil spirits become cursed swords. For example, Hakuba is the bad spirit of Durandal and his curse takes over Cavendish whenever he loses consciousness.

The Wado Ichimonji has a spirit inside of it as well, but it is not cursed, as the spirit is good/pure.

The spirit of the Wado Ichinmonji is Kuina. The Wado Ichimonji, in a way, is a blessed/holy sword. It even has a white sheath to symbolize it as such. Wado Ichimonji is Zoro’s humanity.

However, the blessing of the Wado Ichimonji only works in critical moments because not only is Zoro’s spirit itself that of a savage beast, he has a cursed sword Sandai Kitetsu, and the evil entity of that blade is leading Zoro on a path of bloodlust and carnage. Sandai Kitetus’ sheath is red and it symbolizes bloodlust.

Zoro acquired the Black Blade Shuusi and it has a black sheath. However, the sword and the sheath has a streak of red, also indicating bloodlust.

Over the timeskip, Shuusui seems to have become Zoro’s favorite blade as he used it for all of his one-sword style attacks Post-TS. Pre-ts, it was the Wado Ichimonji. This symbolizes Zoro gradually losing his humanity and becoming more n’ more like a demon.

Its like a battle of Yin vs Yang. In Wano, Zoro will lose control of his inner demons but the Wado Ichimonji will bring him back to his senses. The Sandai Kitetsu will be replaced with the Nidai Kitetsu.

ONE PIECE THEORY SAGA: Clash of the Samurai – The full-length Wano Arc

        CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

        Explanation of the theory’s nature:
Welcome to my new theory, I call this theory my ultimate “Wano Arc theory” as this theory, like no other I have made is a complete theory regarding the important Wano Arc.
I have previously made theories regarding it, and other things which you will see, but this one is the gathering of all of those theories and sources and their combination into a One Piece (pun intended).
As you have seen in the list of contents, this theory would be divided into several sections, unincluding this Introduction section we will begin by re-describing the known information about Wano in the series of One Piece.
Then I will describe my opinions and theories regarding the origins and influences of the Wano and it’s arc.
Afterwards, I will look into every known (And unknown as well) important plotpoint of the Wano arc.
At the end, I shall describe the fights in the end of the arc.

CHAPTER 2: OVERVIEW OF WANO KUNI
        All known info:

So far, we know that Wano Kuni is a country unaffiliated with the World Government, it is ruled by the Samurai- powerful Swordsmen.

        Real-World influences:
Even it’s name basically shows the influnece- Wano Kuni. While Wa no Kuni was a name Japan received in it’s medieval era.
Also the existence of the Samurai show that.
The country then is most likely ruled by the Shogunate, ceremonically working under the Emperor (Who has no executive powers).
The country is also very isolated, like medieval Japan- and they seem to see Devil Fruits as “Sorcery”, showing how isolated they are.

CHAPTER 3: PLOTPOINTS IN WANO ARC
        Strawhats are welcome in Wano:

As the Strawhats would get to Wano, alongside with the Heart Pirates, I believe that they will be respected.
However, at some moment, people will discover that Zoro is the one holding the Shusui- the Shogunate in the name of the Emperor will then chase the Strawhats.

However, I believe that as some moment, suddenly Zoro will be stopped near a statue of Ryuma, at that moment people will see their similarity and now Zoro is thought to be Ryuma’s descendant- leading the people to apologize for their actions.

Afterwards, the Strawhats will eat somewhere, I believe that at that moment an old man would try to grab the Shusui, Zoro would stop him, and the mysterious old man would disappear. This man would only arcs later be revealed to be Scopper Gaban.
The reason I think that is because of this pic:

Zoro learns to cut the elements:
Now that the Samurai are very sorry for their fight with the Strawhats, Zoro would ask if they can teach him how to cut the elements, and thus Zoro will train.
It will not be yet shown if he manages to do so or not.

        CP9 and Ninjas:
Now we’ll see people we haven’t seen in a while, the CP9 group. They now live in Kumadori’s hermit house, the Strawhats would be cautious and surprised to se them.
Lucci might say that now he is a criminal as well for the World Government.
Lucci will note that he is now a broker in the Underworld yet he didn’t expect him to defeat Joker. Now he notes that the Strawhats should be extra careful in Wano, because it is more dangerous for them than what it seems.

At night, I think the Strawhats would be attacked by Ninjas, it will be yet unknown who ordered it, but of course it will be the Sei i Taishogun, leader of the Shogunate and basically ruler of Wano (As of now they’ll be convinced the Emperor is though)
I think Sanji is the one to quickly notice the Ninjas, I’ll explain why later.

        Smoker and Tashigi undercover:

Smoker and Tashigi, undercover, visits Wano as well, Smoker would tell Tashigi that this is not a World Government territory and that they cannot expose themselves as Marines, therefore they stay undercover.
        They see the Strawhats.

        Musashi ruler of the Shogun:
As an apology, the Sei i Taishogun would invite the Strawhats, in order to apologize for earlier when the Shogun attacked them (Not in reality though).
To Zoro’s surprise, the leader of the Shogun is none else than Musashi, someone he knows from his past, and inspired him to become a Swordsman.

        Zoro’s flashback:
For the full version, read the full theory, all the reasoning’s there.
For now I’ll say that Musashi was a traveling Swordsman, challenging people to duels, one day he arrived at Zoro’s village and probably defeated someone Zoro knew, either in a positive or negative way.
Afterwords, Zoro was inspired to be a Swordsman himself, and even surpass Musashi by not fighting with 2 swords, but 3.

Zoro’s fight with Musashi and the rebel Yoshinobu and the Emperor:
Zoro would invite Musashi to a duel, which he will say yes and they’ll begin fighting however it seems that Musashi is stronger.
Suddenly, one of the Samurais attempt to stab Musashi in the back however is stopped by Zoro.
Yoshinobu would warn Zoro, however it was too late- Musashi cut Zoro in the back. Yoshinobu quickly grabs Zoro and tells the Strawhats to run as well, as the entire Shogun chases them.

Now I’ll first tell you the influence of such a thing, well you see, until real-life Tokugawa Yoshinobu, a Sei i Taishogun took power, the Emperor wasn’t the real ruler of Japan, he was only an official figure when everything was in fact ruled by the Shogunate and the Sei i Taishogun basically.

So because of this influence I think the following will happen: When they hide Yoshinobu will tell them the history of Musashi and Wano.
Until some time ago, Wano was ruled by the Emperor, however one day came the powerful Swordsman Musashi, he defeated the commander of the Emperor’s Army, the previous Sei i Taishogun and seized power for himself, now he rules Wano with an iron fist and also turned Wano to a country for the Underworld trade- Musashi in fact serves the only man that ever defeated him- the broker “King”.
At some point, he became a Shichibukai, however Fujitora was very against him becoming a Shichibukai, as he is the one who blinded him. Well you see, Fujitora is none other than the previous Sei i Taishogun!

Now they, the rebels want to bring down Musashi and “King” and have the Emperor rule again.
        Luffy would agree to help.

        Tashigi and Smoker arrive:
The rebel’s leader would be revealed to be Kitetsu, the one who created Zoro’s Sandai Kitetsu, the cursed sword, he is also a hermit and a friend of Kumadori.
He is unnaturally old, and he will be the one to explain the concept of an “Entity” and he will reveal Asura is an Entity in the Sandai Kitetsu.
Because he is Kumadori’s friend, the CP9 would agree to help. Rob Lucci is a broker but he is a rival of King, and therefore also Musashi.
In fact, I believe that the headquarters of the rebels would be at Kitetsu’s shop, and because of that guess who will enter the store? Tashigi and Smoker.

Tashigi will be surprised (Not in a good way though) to find the Strawhats, especially Zoro.
Despite that, they’ll offer their help.

        Arrival of King:
At that moment, the broker “King” will arrive, after Musashi noted to him that the Strawhats arrived, from now on we’ll see a fight between 2 forces for the rule- at one side King and the Shogunate at the other the Emperor and the rebels.

        CHAPTER 4: FINAL BATTLE
        List of duels with reasoning:

Now, all the Strawhats and their allies would fight, but I’d like to only note the important ones of them.

        Roronoa Zoro vs. Musashi:
Obviously a very important fight, after all it’s Musashi who inspired Zoro to become a Swordsman, in this fight Zoro will use Asura again, and perhaps when even that won’t work- he’ll open his left eye, showing that in fact it is only there to be a restraint and in fact he is even stronger than that.
He will also show an ability to cut the elements in this fight.

EDIT: It is also possible that Zoro would take Musashi’s sword after defeating him, though it’s also possible he’ll just leave Musashi’s 2 swords for Tashigi.

        Monkey D. Luffy vs. King:
According to my theory, King would be even stronger than Musashi and Luffy would fight him.

        Sanji vs. the ninja leader:
I think that the Ninjas would be on Musashi’s side (He’ll hire them), during this fight Sanji would be able to turn invicible after learning it from the Ninjas they fought the night before, and by that also accomplishing one of his dreams.

        Impact:
I think there will be a massive impact, the first is that after Musashi is defeated, the World Government at the Reverie would abolish the Shichibukai system once and for all.
I also think that it will mark a collapse of the Underworld trade and would lead to the big fight against Kaido in Kano Kuni.

        So what do you think?
