Whitebeard and Kaido-The Sentencer and the Sentenced

When we were first introduced to Kaido and his inability to die, many theories were created as to what his power might be. What keeps him from dying?

I remember reading people’s comments such as “he should just jump into the ocean” or “he should just eat more than one devil fruit.” And while at first I thought the fact that Kaido hadn’t tried either of these things was due more to plot convenience than anything else. But then another thought occurred to me: What if Kaido had already tried these things during his life?

Let’s talk about some things that we already know about Kaido that will be important to this theory:
1. Kaido murdered Moria’s entire crew as well as Momo’s parents
2. Kaido attempted to take on Whitebeard right before the Whitebeard war
3. Kaido has been given the death sentence repeatedly for his crimes

These points are important because they tell us that:
1. Kaido brazenly murders
2. Kaido had some reason to attack Whitebeard
3. Kaido has committed atrocities that many deem punishable by death

And now about Whitebeard:
1. According to Buggy, no one messes with the Whitebeard pirates for fear of angering Whitebeard
2. The other Yonko didn’t dare cross him, even in his old age and sickness
3. Whitebeard’s second division commander slot had been open for ages before Ace filled it

These points are important because they tell us that:
1. At some point, Whitebeard showed the world what happens to those who mess with the Whitebeard pirates
2. The Yonko wouldn’t cross Whitebeard due to more than just his reputation
3. Whitebeard had reservations about filling an empty slot in his crew, possibly due to pain of loss

And now, Kaido’s first words:

Many fans including me at first simply dismissed this statement as “Whitebeard did a good job by dying.” But many people in One Piece have died, why did Oda decide to have Kaido specifically chose to mention Whitebeard here?

Do you see where I’m going with this? I believe the story goes like this:

Kaido was a young, incredibly dangerous pirate who had dreams of claiming One Piece, and was making a reputation for himself at an alarming rate to the World Government. He made his name well known throughout the new world for his strength and brutality, through feats such ascrushing and murdering Gekko Moria’s entire crew. At some point, Kaido became cocky and decided to make a move for the One Piece, but of course, he would have to go through the King of the Sea, Whitebeard. Kaido made his first move by crushing Whitebeard’s second division and killing the second division commander. Enraged, Whitebeard unleashed his full wrath on Kaido and defeated him. It was a brutal battle that left both Whitebeard and Kaido permanently scarred, and in a final act of revenge, Whitebeard used his abilities as a Speaker of the Voice to sentence Kaido to an undying existence, and then cast him into the sea. As Kaido possessed a devil fruit, he was doomed to drown helplessly for eternity, without dying. The world was shocked and awed by the true wrath of Whitebeard, who had just crushed the strong young pirate for murdering a member of his crew. Kaido drifted at the bottom of the sea for months or even years before he was finally brought back up to shore by some person or some sea king (for whatever reason lol). Back to the surface, Kaido was delusioned and angry by his months/years of suffering and was left with suicidal tendencies. The world was terrified by the man who they all thought had been killed by Whitebeard making a reappearance (possibly by sinking prison ships). When Kaido was convinced that he could not die, he began to amass his power in the form of eating multiple Zoan-type devil fruits and gaining their abilities, earning him the name of Hundred Beasts Kaido, the man with many Zoan forms. Kaido never forgave Whitebeard for the curse that he placed upon him, and for this reason continuously had fits of rage towards Whitebeard,even attempting to take Whitebeard’s life before Marineford. With Whitebeard dead, Kaido was left with his undying body, and his dreams of claiming One Piece once reaffirmed.

I believe this would explain Kaido’s suicidal tendencies, why he actually hasn’t died from eating multiple devil fruits/drowning, the pirates of the worlds’ acknowledgement of Whitebeard even in old age, the fact that the Yonko dared not cross him, and even why in his old, sickened state that Whitebeard was still viewed as the strongest pirate on the sea, as he was a Speaker of the Voice.

But where did this ability come from? What is its overall purpose in the story?

*Theory by Saving Ace

The theme of Mariejois is like Olympus in Greek mythology because they are both located in high altitude place and has a gigantic palace which is built on top of the mountain. (Mariejois built on top of the Red Line.)

Olympus is the home of divine family and ruling gods and Mariejois is the home of Celestial Dragons which we can say the divine family in OP and Gorosei the so called gods.

The pattern or theme of Mariejois is Olympus so we might see a character which is conceptualize and inspired by the king of gods in Olympia. Who’s the king of gods and ruler of Olympus?

In ancient Greece Zeus is the king of gods, god of sky and ruler of Olympus, he is the strongest god in Olympus and no one can oppose him nor fight him because of his great power.

A character inspired by Zeus is very possible because there are gods in One Piece and maybe that strongest god will be the final villain that Strawhats will going to face in the final war against Marines, World Government, Celestial Dragons and Gorosei in the Mariejois.

Remember what Oda said before that the Marineford war will gonna look like nothing in the final chapter that’s why he’s motivated to keep drawing One Piece and he likes his fans to stick with him til the end.

Luffy’s Grand Fleet and maybe other pirates or all pirates and Revos will join Strawhats in the huge war against World Government, Marines, Celestial Dragon and Gods in Mariejois, this is great to see as the last chapter of One Piece!

Mariejois is the greatest place for the final war because remember the impact, excitement and insanity that we felt when Whitebeard Pirates attacked the based of marines in Marineford and started the summit war, what more if we see the Strawhats and his allied forces attack the Marines, World Government, Gorosei and Celestial Dragons in Mariejois and start the final great war. It will definitely give us more excitement, goose bumps and emotions because many pirates and marines will die in this war.

The Roger Pirates were the crew of the late Pirate King Gol D. Roger and was supposedly the only crew to ever reach Raftel. 

This was the crew that traveled around the Grand Line together and the things they did were part of legends.

Ironically, only the captain and the first mate seem to have been remembered while the rest of the crew have apparently faded out of memory, all save those still active like Shanks and Buggy.

The Roger Pirates’s ship, the Oro Jackson, was constructed by the most skilled shipwright of the era, Tom. The ship had a large cannon in the front surrounded by a pair of mermaids. This cannon was powerful enough to destroy an entire ship.

The Roger Pirates jolly roger is the traditional skull in One Piece with a mustache that resembles Gol D. Roger’s mustache.

With the last panel of the 822nd chapter, Oda finally announced the Reverie arc (don’t go assuming Vivi is going to the Tea Party, we all know it’s not true).
Just a detail, the Reverie arc won’t happen soon. I’m pretty sure we won’t have any news about the Reverie before the Wano Arc’s end.

For the ones living under a rock (just kidding ), here is a brief definition.
The Reverie (literally translated as “World Council”) is a council formed by the World Government which consists of the world’s greatest leaders of various kingdoms.
Meetings are held every four years at Mariejois and kings or queens gather to discuss matters that could affect the world.

Okay let’s begin.
I will detail in this theory, how and why the Reverie will anounce the abolition of the Shichibukai system from a very logical way and from 3 different point of view. Stay with me guys, you will see that I’ve put a lot of work on it .

Perspective 1 : the Kings of the different countries
So first, who will be present at the Reverie ?
There will be the representatives of the 20 countries and here are the ones we already know :
Alabasta Kingdom : Nefertari Cobra and Vivi
Ryugu Kingdom : King Neptune (and maybe his 3 sons)
Dressrosa : King Riku
Sakura Kingdom (formerly the Drum Kingdom) : King Dalton
Ilusia Kingdom : Thalassa Lucas (he was the King at the reverie 8 years ago)

I will add one more but this one is a just a speculation so I won’t talk more about it.
Prodence Kingdom : King Elizabello II and Dagama

Did you notice guys ? From the 5 country/kingdom I mentioned just above, 4 of them have already a conflict (more or less) with the Shichibukai system.
Crocodile and Dofflamingo nearly destroy the whole country of Alabasta and Dressrosa.
Blackbeard attacked the Drum Kingdom and left him without a King.
Jinbei close friend of King Neptune, get imprisoned because he refused to fight Whitebeard as a Shichibukai.

If King Ezabello II is here, he also has a grudge against Dofflamingo.

What I’m really confident is that the representatives will talk about the situation of their respective country. And this is where the situation will become really tense. I mean the World Government, formed by the 20 most powerfull country, is supposed to protect those countries right ? So how is it possible that already 4 of them (maybe more) have suffered from the Shichibukai system which is supposed to be control by the same WG ?

We can already see the reasons why the Shichibukai system can be abolished from the perspective of the different characters/country right ?

Perspective 2 : the World Government
So what about the World Government itself ? Why would they abolish the shichibukai system at the Reverie ?
Well here is the current situation, only 5 shichibukai are remaining. So without going any further there are already 2 seats lacking.
But for the rest here are my thought.

Dracule Mihawk : we know that he doesn’t care about the WG, he does what he wants to do and he will probably end as a Shanks ally. So there is no reason for him to stay any longer as a shichibukai (maybe the main reason to become a shichibukai in the first place was to gather information).

Boa Hancock : she already betrayed the WG sneaking Luffy into Impel Down and attacking Smoker and other marines during the MarineFord war. And we know it’s going to happen again in the future. All the reason to expel her from her title.

Kuma : well either he remains a Shichibukai or not, he will stay under the WG controls for a long time again so doesn’t really matter in this case.

Buggy : I don’t have a lot to say about this one honestly. I just imagine easily Buggy’s face after losing his Shichibukai title because of Luffy !

And here comes the most interesting one, Weevil :
I said earlier that the Reverie will occur after the Tea Party and the Wano arc right ? Well guess what, Weevil will have a huge role to at least one or both of this events. First he is linked to Big Mom with his pseudo mother, Miss Bukkin, which there is a huge chance that she is one of Big Mom daughter.
Second we also know that Marco will come back in Wano as well. It seems not far-fetched to think in that case Weeble might come to deal with him in Wano.
Anyway, either it is one of those speculation, Weevil will be defeated or become a future ally at the end of the Tea Party/Wano arc. And this is why the WG after losing another of his Shishibukai, will have another good reason to abolish it !

Perspective 3 : from Oda’s point of view
If you think about it, if my theory is right, after the Reverie Kaido will be defeated, Big Mom will be out of the picture for a bit (i think she will become an ally cause I can’t see 2 Yonko being defeated/killed so quicklu), almost all the Supernova will be introduced (Kid/Apoo/Hawkins/Killer/ alliance it’s obvious that it goes with Kaido arc, Capone already in the picture, Drake and bonney will appear soon too imo). So after all that, ODA will have to put in front of the scene all the big Boss of One Piecés universe. I mean Shanks and Blackbeard, Dragon and the revolutionnaries and the Gorosei. So how can he do that ? Well imo the Reverie will be the trigger the story need.
If you think about it, from the beginning of One Piece, Oda told us that the World’s balance was kept by the WG – Shichibukai – 4 Yonkos. We also get some information on the Reverie at the beginning of Grand Line (in Alabasta). It simply means that ODA planned from the very start to make the Reverie one of the most important event in One Piece. Is there a better way to make this event HUGE, than to abolish the shichibukai system and to break the balance of the world ? The big figure will have no other choice but to make their move and we will finally enter in the last part of One Piece.

• Originally, Zoro was planned by Oda to be the bodyguard of Buggy. A picture of an incarnation of him in Buggy’s crew was then later released in Volume 3 along with another picture of Buggy’s crew. Oda described Buggy’s crew as a family unit, in which Zoro was the elder brother.

• Zoro has his own jolly roger, like all the Straw Hat crew. It has Zoro’s bandanna, two swords instead of crossbones, and a sword in its mouth (the white hilt suggests that it is Wado Ichimonji, which is always the one that Zoro holds in his mouth when using Santoryu).
  • After the timeskip, the skull gains Zoro’s three earrings and the left eye is closed with a vertical scar over it to match Zoro’s own eye. The swords that make up the crossbones are more detailed: the blade pointing towards the right is dark, suggesting that it is Shusui while the other is Sandai Kitetsu.

• Zoro is the only member of the crew that Luffy personally sought out to invite before they actually met.
• Zoro is the only Straw Hat Pirate to be named after a real life pirate, this being after the Japanese pronunciation of François l’Ollonais.

• Zoro is the first known person since Ryuma to kill a dragon, an act which made the latter a legend. Both of them also killed the dragon the same way, by decapitation in the air.
• Zoro’s reintroduction to the series after the timeskip is reminiscent of how Mihawk was introduced. Both sliced a galleon in two and both seemingly did so due to an interrupted nap.
• In Japanese fan polls, Zoro was consistently the second most popular character, until his position was usurped by Law in this most recent poll. Furthermore, in the attack popularity polls his Santoryu Ogi: Sanzen Sekai came in 2nd.
• Zoro usually fights the second strongest member of the villain group the Straw Hats face during the story arcs.
• Zoro’s favorite foods are white rice, sea king meat, and anything that goes with ale. His least favorite food is chocolate. Other than taking naps, Zoro typically sleeps at 4:00 A.M. and gets up at 7:00 A.M and he bathes once a week.
• Like Luffy, Zoro has a scar on his chest and a scar on his face.

• His name is similar to John Silver from Treasure Island and Sir Walter Raleigh, an English 16th-century explorer and privateer. It should be noted that Sir Walter Raleigh’s name has been spelled in over forty different ways, in which also includes the spelling “Rayleigh” (note; the “y” would actually be pronounced as “i”).
• When Rayleigh fought Kizaru, he told him that if he were to get rid of his wanted poster, he could go into a peaceful retirement. This means that Rayleigh has an active bounty; the amount has yet to be revealed.
• Silver is traditionally considered the next most valuable metal after gold, and as the first mate, Silvers Rayleigh was the second highest ranked man in the crew after the captain, Gol D. Roger also known as Gold Roger.
  • There is a theme of rare metals among the senior members of the Roger Pirates, as another member is named Scopper Gaban, as in “copper”.
• Rayleigh and Coby share the same birthday.
• He is the first former pirate known to still have an active bounty.
• In the 5th fan poll, Rayleigh ranked 32nd.

SBS-Based:

• When Shanks and Buggy were first revealed to be part of Roger’s crew, a fan asked Oda in a SBS question if the man that scolded them was a subordinate captain under Roger that commanded the ship they were sailing on, or even a high ranking officer. Without giving away Rayleigh’s name at the time, Oda responded that this man was none other than the first mate of Roger’s crew. Oda also stated in his response that since he had set this fact in stone from the very start, he told Toei Animation that when they adapt Buggy’s flashback for the anime, Buggy and Shanks should not refer to Rayleigh as Captain in the anime

In one of the interviews, Oda said that the final arc of One Piece will be about a war so huge that will make Marineford war look like an unimportant filler!
